When he entered the United States, Joshua would come to realize how different his tropical home was compared to the cold streets of New York. Despite being fourteen years old, he was placed in seventh grade. Unlike those blessed with innate talent or skills, Joshua grappled with self-doubt and uncertainty in his formative years. From being a regular kid on his island, to being deemed as behind his peers in America. On a planet of prodigies, Joshua struggled to find his place in the world.

Joshua would complete his promise to himself when he graduated high school with stellar grades and embarked on his journey to become an animator at Hostos Community College. Majoring in Digital Design with a concentration in animation, Joshua aims to use his creativity to strike awe in audiences with his animation Today, as the co-founder of Above Adversity, Joshua stands as a testament of the integral role media plays in the development of the youth. Through his journey, he has not only defied the odds, but has shown that with grit, determination, and unwavering passion, anything is possible.

Born to a Dominican immigrant who sought a better life in the land of opportunity during the late 90s, Johnnedry’s story is a testament to the spirit that fuels the American dream. Raised in a household where hard work and perseverance were revered virtues, he harbored great aspirations from a young age, aspiring to pursue a career in law and advocate for justice.

Fueled by a sense of purpose, he pursued his passion for law further, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Striving to contribute to his community, he currently works as a teacher at Classical Charter Schools while pursuing his Master's Degree in Education. To Johnnedry, Above Adversity isn't just a business name—it's a mantra, a call to action, and a testament to the boundless potential that lies within each and every one of us.
